Advanced Surgical Endodontics.
When a standard root canal fails or infection persists in the jawbone, our FCPS Endodontist, Dr. Shahid Islam, performs advanced periapical surgeries to save your natural tooth.
What is an Apicoectomy?
Occasionally, a tooth that has undergone a root canal treatment fails to heal, or pain continues. This can happen months or even years after successful treatment. When nonsurgical retreatment is impossible, an apicoectomy (root-end surgery) is the final, highly effective method to save the tooth.
How Periapical Surgery Works
Unlike a standard root canal that cleans the tooth from the top, an apicoectomy accesses the infection directly from the root tip hidden inside the jawbone.
- 1️⃣ Using state-of-the-art magnification, Dr. Shahid makes a microscopic incision in the gum tissue to expose the infected bone.
- 2️⃣ The infected tissue and the very tip of the tooth's root are surgically removed.
- 3️⃣ A biocompatible root-end filling is placed to seal the root canal perfectly, and the gum is sutured. Over the next few months, the jawbone heals entirely around the root.
Why an FCPS Endodontist?
Surgical Endodontics is a niche specialty. It requires immense precision, advanced surgical microscopy, and a deep understanding of complex root anatomy that general dentists do not possess.
As a certified FCPS Endodontist, Dr. Shahid Islam is the leading authority in Karachi for retrieving separated instruments, handling calcified canals, and executing flawless periapical surgeries.
